Newton’s Marketing March Madness is well underway. The big news in the first round was 6th seeded Print-Magazine’s upset over 3rd seeded TV. The match ups for Round 2 are now set. Who will reach next week’s final? You decide.

Marketing Mix March Madness Bracket Round 2

 

(1) Promotional Products
Strengths - Long lasting affect with one of the lowest costs per impression. Appreciated by recipient due to usefulness.

Weaknesses - Often considered “trinkets” and an afterthought in advertising circles

Comments - "Creates customer smiles, gratitude and quite often, 'Word of Mouth.'" - Joe Easley

(4) Email
Strengths - Low production costs for a very targeted delivery with ability to be personal.

Weaknesses - Seen as intrusive. Spam and clutter have reduced effectiveness.

Comments - “More immediate contact than face-to-face, but impersonal" - Van Baale Enterprises

 

     
(2) Direct mail
Strengths - Strong demographic targeting and easy to include response mechanism and redeemable offers for further engagement.

Weaknesses - Mailbox clutter and sometimes unreliable mailing lists.

Comments - "This is on the rise and coming back.” - Molly Beavers

 VS. (6) Print - Magazines
Strength - Target by special interest, niche, or demographic. National reach.

 

Weaknesses - Advertising clutter. Relatively high cost for placement.

Comments - “I like a more targeted media.” - D. Schaaf
