Luck had something to do with it as Newton Manufacturing Company’s “Lucky Dog” hot dog creation won Best Overall Theme during the 7th annual Thanks with Franks event in downtown Newton, IA. A well-dressed Newton Manufacturing team assembled and dealt out 200 Lucky Dogs from their casino themed booth.

“Everyone had a fun time. It was a great turn out for a good cause,” said Chuck Flaherty, who led Newton Manufacturing’s team. “We’re proud to have won Best Overall Theme.”

Newton’s Lucky Dog was a grilled hot dog on a bun topped with marinara sauces, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, Parmesan cheese and oregano. In addition to the Lucky Dog, everyone who stopped by the booth received a goody bag with a poker chip shaped coaster, key tag and chocolates. The items were generously donated by industry suppliers Gold Bond, Custom Printing and Chocolate Inn respectively. Other prizes were given to those lucky ones who received a specially marked bag.

Thanks with Franks is coordinated by the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce and is an event for businesses to say “Thank you” to the community by handing out free hot dogs around the downtown square in Newton. Each participating company chooses a unique way to serve their hot dogs. People can vote for their favorite by making a donation to the sponsored charity, which was the Newton Girls Soccer team this year.
